Tanya Ravichandran, originally named Abbirami Sriram, is an Indian actress predominantly known for her work in Tamil-language films. Born into a family with ties to the film industry, as the granddaughter of Malaysian Tamil actor Ravichandran, Tanya developed an interest in acting from a young age, inspired by her grandfather’s work. Her mother, Lavanya Sriram, a classical dancer, further nurtured her artistic inclinations by training Tanya and her sister, Apparajitha, in Bharatanatyam. Before entering the film industry, Tanya pursued her education, obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce degree from M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women in Chennai and later pursuing a master’s degree at Madras School of Social Work. In early 2016, she successfully auditioned for a film directed by Mysskin and was cast opposite Maitreya in the lead role. At Mysskin’s suggestion, she adopted the stage name Tanya for her acting career. Tanya’s debut film, however, was “Balle Vellaiyathevaa” (2016), a rural comedy drama in which she starred alongside Sasikumar. Despite mixed reviews, Tanya’s performance received some praise.
