Shiva Rajkumar, born Nagaraju Shiva Puttaswamy on 12 July 1962, is a celebrated figure in Indian cinema, primarily renowned for his contributions to Kannada cinema as an actor, film producer, and television presenter. With a career spanning over three decades, he has left an indelible mark on the industry, starring in over 125 Kannada films and garnering numerous accolades, including four Karnataka State Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards South, and six South Indian International Movie Awards. As the eldest son of the iconic Dr. Rajkumar, Shiva Rajkumar is affectionately known as Shivanna among his ardent fans. He made his debut in the film industry as a child artist in “Sri Srinivasa Kalyana” (1974). After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, he commenced his journey as a leading actor at the age of 24 with “Anand” (1986), a production helmed by his mother. The film was both a critical and commercial triumph, earning him the Cinema Express Award for Best Actor. Rapidly rising to prominence, Shiva Rajkumar earned the moniker of Hat-trick Hero for delivering consecutive hits with “Ratha Sapthami” (1986) and “Manamecchida Hudugi” (1987). Throughout the late 1980s, he continued his winning streak with successful ventures like “Samyuktha” (1988), “Inspector Vikram” (1988), “Ranaranga” (1988), and “Aasegobba Meesegobba” (1988). The 1990s witnessed Shiva Rajkumar’s ascent to superstardom with acclaimed performances in iconic films such as “Om” (1995), which earned him his first Karnataka State Film Award and Filmfare Award for Best Actor. His prowess in romantic dramas like “Janumada Jodi” (1996) and “Nammoora Mandara Hoove” (1996), and action thrillers like “Simhada Mari” (1997) further solidified his status as a leading star in the industry. Beyond Kannada cinema, Shiva Rajkumar expanded his horizons with cameo appearances in Telugu and Tamil films, notably “Gautamiputra Satakarni” (2017) and “Jailer” (2023) respectively. Additionally, he ventured into television with the talk show “Naaniruvude Nimagagi” (2010) on Zee Kannada and explored production with the TV serial “Manasa Sarovara” and co-production of web series like “Hate You Romeo” and “Honeymoon.” Throughout his illustrious career, Shiva Rajkumar has left an indelible legacy, with his versatile performances and contributions to the Indian entertainment industry.
