Rituparna Sengupta

Rituparna Sengupta, an acclaimed Indian actress and producer, has made significant contributions to Bengali, Odia, and Hindi cinema. Rising to prominence in the late 1990s, she emerged as one of the most successful actresses in Bengali cinema, garnering accolades including a National Award, two Filmfare Awards, four BFJA Awards, and four Anandalok Awards. Introduced to the entertainment industry as a potential successor to Satabdi Roy, Rituparna began her journey with the Bengali fantasy TV series “Shwet Kapot” in 1989, opposite Kushal Chakraborty. Her big-screen debut came in the Odia film “Kotia Manish Gotiye Jaga” (1991), where she starred opposite Bijay Mohanty under the direction of Vijay Bhaskar. Throughout her illustrious career, Rituparna has been associated with numerous acclaimed Bengali films, many of which have received National Awards. These include “Shwet Patharer Thala” (1992), “Lathi” (1996), “Dahan” (1997), “Paromitar Ek Din” (2000), “Mondo Meyer Upakhyan” (2002), and “Anuranan” (2006). Her Bollywood debut came with Partho Ghosh’s “Teesra Kaun” in 1994. Born on November 7, 1970, Rituparna’s early interest in the arts led her to explore various creative pursuits such as painting, dancing, singing, and handicrafts at Chitrangshu, a painting school. She pursued her education at Carmel High School and later graduated with a degree in history from Lady Brabourne College. Initially, she embarked on an M.A. in Modern History at the University of Calcutta but had to pause her studies to focus on her acting career.
