Kunchacko Boban

Kunchacko Boban, born on 2 November 1976, is a prominent figure in the Malayalam film industry, known for his versatile talents as an actor and film producer. Affectionately called Chackochan or the “chocolate boy,” he has adorned over 100 films spanning more than two decades, earning him a distinguished place in Malayalam cinema. Hailing from the illustrious Kunchacko family, Kunchacko made his debut as a child artist in the film “Dhanya” (1981), produced by his father Boban Kunchacko. His breakthrough came with his adult leading role in Fazil’s romantic drama “Aniyathipraavu” (1997), opposite Shalini, which became a blockbuster hit, propelling him to stardom overnight. Subsequently, he showcased his acting prowess in diverse roles, from brief appearances in blockbusters like “Harikrishnans” (1998) to successful romantic ventures like “Nakshatratharattu” (1998) and “Niram” (1999). Despite his initial success in romantic roles, Kunchacko demonstrated his versatility with memorable performances in various genres, including comedy and family dramas. Following a brief hiatus in 2006, Kunchacko returned to the silver screen with the comedy “Gulumal: The Escape” (2009), marking a significant shift from his earlier romantic hero image. Embracing diverse roles, he garnered acclaim for his performances in critically and commercially successful films like “Traffic” (2011), “How Old Are You?” (2014), and “Take Off” (2017). Noteworthy among his recent successes are films such as “Virus” (2019), “Anjaam Pathiraa” (2020), and “Nayattu” (2021), showcasing his acting prowess and versatility. In addition to his acting prowess, Kunchacko ventured into film production, reviving Udaya Studios with the comedy drama “Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho” (2016). Continuing his foray into production, he announced the film “Ariyippu” under the banner of Udaya Studios, marking his Silver Jubilee celebration as a hero and the Platinum Jubilee celebration of Udaya Pictures. Further expanding his horizons, Kunchacko launched his own production house, Kunchacko Boban Productions, with the debut film “Ariyippu,” further solidifying his position as a multifaceted talent in the Malayalam film industry.
