Konkona Sensharma

Konkona Sen Sharma, born on December 3, 1979, is a prominent Indian actress and filmmaker known for her contributions to both Hindi and Bengali cinema. Born to renowned filmmaker and actress Aparna Sen and science writer/journalist Mukul Sharma, Konkona was destined for a life in the arts. Her lineage includes illustrious figures like her maternal grandfather, Chidananda Dasgupta, a respected film critic and scholar, and her grandmother Supriya Dasgupta, who was related to the legendary Bengali poet Jibanananda Das. Sen Sharma’s journey in cinema began early, debuting as a child artist in the film “Indira” in 1983. However, it was her leading role in the Bengali thriller “Ek Je Aachhe Kanya” (2000) that marked her transition into adult roles. She gained widespread recognition with her performance in the English-language film “Mr. and Mrs. Iyer” (2002), directed by her mother, earning her the National Film Award for Best Actress. Transitioning into Hindi cinema, Sen Sharma made a significant impact with films like “Page 3” (2005), “Omkara” (2006), and “Life in a… Metro” (2007), winning accolades including two consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress. Her versatility shone through diverse roles in films such as “15 Park Avenue” (2005), “Dosar” (2006), and “Laaga Chunari Mein Daag” (2007).
