Jayaram

Jayaram Subramaniam, known simply as Jayaram, is a multifaceted Indian actor prominent in Malayalam cinema, as well as Tamil and Telugu films. Born on December 10, 1965, he boasts a diverse skill set beyond acting, including prowess as a chenda percussionist, mimicry artist, and occasional playback singer. With a career spanning over three decades, Jayaram has left an indelible mark, starring in more than 200 films and earning numerous accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri, two Kerala State Film Awards, one Tamil Nadu State Film Award, and four Filmfare Awards South. Jayaram’s journey into the entertainment industry began at the Kalabhavan Institute during the 1980s, where he honed his skills as a mimicry artist. He made his acting debut in a leading role in Padmarajan’s 1988 film “Aparan.” Throughout the 1990s, Jayaram solidified his position as a leading actor by portraying memorable characters in a plethora of family dramas and comedies. Some of his notable works during this period include “Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal” (1989), “Sandhesam” (1991), “Meleparambil Aanveedu” (1993), “Puthukkottayile Puthumanavalan” (1995), and “Summer in Bethlehem” (1998). His venture into Tamil cinema with the 2000 film “Thenali” earned him two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Jayaram’s prowess in Malayalam cinema was recognized with his first Kerala State Film Award, the Special Jury Award for his performance in “Thooval Kottaram” (1996). He later clinched the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor for his role in “Swayamvara Panthal” (2000). His exceptional performances also garnered him three Filmfare Awards for Best Actor, notably for “Thooval Kottaram” (1996), “Theerthadanam” (2001), and “Manassinakkare” (2003). In 2011, Jayaram received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, in recognition of his significant contributions to the Indian film industry.
