Jaswinder Bhalla

Jaswinder Bhalla, an esteemed Indian actor and comedian, has left an indelible mark on Punjabi cinema with his iconic performances and witty humor. Born on May 4, 1960, in Ludhiana, Bhalla’s journey into the world of comedy began with his childhood passion for entertaining others. Bhalla received his education from Senior Secondary School Doraha and went on to pursue higher studies at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), where he earned his B.Sc., M.Sc., and eventually his Ph.D. from Chaudhary Charan Singh Post Graduate College, Meerut. His academic journey led him to a career as an Assistant Professor at PAU, where he later served as the Professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education until his retirement in May 2020. Despite his academic pursuits, Bhalla’s comedic talent shone through from an early age. Alongside his schoolmates, he was selected for All India Radio in 1975. During his time at PAU, Bhalla showcased his comedic flair in university programs, laying the foundation for his future in the entertainment industry. Bhalla’s professional comedy career commenced in 1988, alongside his co-performer Bal Mukund Sharma, with the release of the audio cassette “Chhankata 1988.” The word “Chhankata” originated from the annual college-level show performed by Bhalla and Sharma at PAU. Their performances caught the attention of Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar, leading to their inclusion in the cultural festival organized by Punjabi author Jagdev Singh Jassowal. The duo’s collaboration led to the creation of the immensely popular “Chhankata” series, which has seen the release of over 27 audio and video albums. Bhalla’s comedic genius, coupled with his ability to infuse taglines into his performances, became a trademark of the series, earning him widespread acclaim and adoration from audiences. In addition to his contributions to the “Chhankata” series, Bhalla has ventured into Punjabi cinema, making his acting debut in the film “Dulla Bhatti.” Known for his ability to bring a comic touch to his roles, he has become a beloved figure in the Punjabi film industry. Beyond his work in cinema and comedy, Bhalla is also renowned for his stage performances, including his popular show “Naughty Baba in Town,” which has entertained audiences in Canada and Australia. Jaswinder Bhalla’s comedic prowess, coupled with his academic background, exemplifies his multifaceted talent and enduring legacy in the realm of entertainment. His contributions have not only entertained audiences but have also solidified his status as a cultural icon in Punjabi cinema.
