Amala Paul

Amala Paul, born on October 26, 1991, is an acclaimed Indian actress and producer known for her work primarily in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu cinema. Her cinematic journey began with the Malayalam film “Neelathamara” in 2009, marking her debut on the silver screen. Notably, she garnered the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of the titular character in “Mynaa” (2010). Hailing from Ernakulam, Kerala, Amala was born into a Syro-Malabar Catholic Syrian Christian family to parents Paul Varghese (deceased in 2017) and Annice Paul. Her brother Abijith Paul also ventured into the film industry following Amala’s footsteps. After completing her schooling at Nirmala Higher Secondary School in Aluva, she took a hiatus to embark on a career in films. However, she later resumed her studies and enrolled at St. Teresa’s College in Kochi to pursue a B.A. degree in English. Amala’s decision to pursue acting initially faced resistance from her father, who was apprehensive about her career choice. Nonetheless, with staunch support from her brother, she persisted, eventually earning her father’s acceptance. Reflecting on her upbringing, Amala revealed that her inclination towards performing arts stemmed from her family background, with her mother being a singer and her father having a background in theatre during his college years.
